Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about beacbeac as a product. For step-by-step instructions on using the app, see the handbook home.

What types of beacons are supported?

beacbeac supports standard Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons that broadcast the iBeacon protocol. Compatible beacons include Estimote, Kontakt.io, and other major BLE beacon vendors that ship iBeacon-formatted advertisements.

How do I configure a beacon?

Each iBeacon broadcasts a UUID, a major value, and a minor value. beacbeac reads these during the pairing scan and saves them with your venue — you don't have to type them in. Calibration (tuning trigger distance) is part of the same pairing flow. See Beacons → Pairing a beacon for the step-by-step.

If your beacon hardware has its own configuration app (most do), you can adjust transmission power and broadcast interval there before pairing. For most venues, the manufacturer defaults are fine.

Is beacbeac only for museums and galleries?

No. A beacbeac story can be anything — an artwork, an exhibit, a waypoint on a trail, a landmark on a main street, a stop at a festival. The story form adapts to the story type you pick: museum catalogue fields appear only for Artwork and Exhibit stories.

Can I manage multiple venues?

Yes. beacbeac is multi-tenant — one beacbeac account can have access to several venues, each with its own isolated stories, beacons, users, and analytics. Each venue is identified by a short Tenant ID you enter on the login screen.

What languages does beacbeac support?

beacbeac is available in English, with Spanish and French translations. The app follows the device's language setting. Your own content — story titles and descriptions — appears as you wrote it; beacbeac doesn't translate it.

What platforms are supported?

  • iOS — iPhone and iPad (iOS 15 and newer).
  • Android — modern phones and tablets with Bluetooth Low Energy.
  • Web — any modern desktop browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) for admin work.

Bluetooth scanning is mobile-only

The web platform can manage beacon records but cannot scan Bluetooth. Use the iOS or Android app for any beacon pairing, calibration, or signal troubleshooting. The web is best for bulk editing story text, reviewing statistics, and managing users — work that doesn't need to be done on the floor.

How is my data secured?

beacbeac uses Firebase Authentication and Firestore security rules to keep tenant data isolated. All traffic is encrypted with TLS, and what each user can see and do is controlled by their role (Super Admin / Tenant Admin / Organizer / Staff — see Users & access).

What does the visitor app collect about visitors?

Analytics are anonymous. beacbeac records that a visit and views happened, plus which stories were opened, but no identifier ties a session to a specific person. See Analytics.

What happens if I exceed the beacon limit?

Please contact us to discuss your needs. We can adjust limits based on your organization's requirements.
